On 21 June we marked World Sun Day and the summer solstice — the longest day of the year.
It is one of the rare occasions when a piece of astronomy matches exactly what you can see out of the window: the day really does last longer, the evening comes later, and the children can check at home, for themselves, what they were told that morning. We started from there and talked about why it happens and why, from the following day, the days slowly begin to shorten again.
And because it was the longest day, we had time for plenty of activities, for play and for good cheer — just as the beginning of summer deserves.
