A week of adventures, discoveries and revision

It was a week full of adventure, discovery and revision at PlusKids, in which play, imagination and carefully prepared exercises came together naturally.

We explored the world of pirates and set off across the maths treasure map, where every task solved brought the children a step closer to the treasure. That format changes the atmosphere of an arithmetic lesson completely: you no longer solve exercises because the worksheet says so, but because otherwise you will never find out where the treasure is. Through play we practised calculation, attention, orientation and logical thinking.

Then we discovered the beauty of the poppy. We talked about plants, built sentences and practised writing from pictures — an activity that develops expression, vocabulary and the ability to spot the details worth telling, all at once.

In maths we worked through varied activities: recognising numbers, revision, fractions, multiplication and mathematical vocabulary. We turned the exercises into appealing challenges so that the ideas would be easier to grasp and to keep. Revision has a well-known drawback — children are convinced they already know it all — which is exactly why it works far better dressed up as something else.

Nature had its place too: we talked about frogs, about tortoises and about kinds of animals, and the children learned to observe, compare and group information by criteria they set themselves.

And because learning can also be delicious, we ran activities on the theme of "Ice cream and maths by the cone", where the sums turned friendlier and more colourful.

At PlusKids, every week is designed so that children revise, discover new things and build confidence in their own abilities.
