Today we learned to be heroes against bullying. Valentine's Day, the day when people talk most about how we treat one another, seemed the right moment to say stop to bullying.
We started from what the word actually means: not every quarrel between two children, but behaviour that repeats and that always leaves the same child in the weaker position. That distinction matters, because a child who knows it stops mistaking a passing upset for a serious problem, and the other way round.
Then we talked about the third child, the one who watches. That is almost always where it is decided whether a situation stops or continues: whoever laughs encourages it; whoever stays silent lets it carry on; whoever calls an adult, or simply sits down next to the child being hurt, ends it. Being a hero does not mean confronting anyone — it means not standing aside, and any child can do that, however small.
We also told the children the most important thing: asking an adult for help is not telling tales. It is exactly what should be done.
