"Wonderful nature" week was exactly what its name promised: a week spent with our eyes on the world around us.
We explored the colours and shapes of nature and learned about landforms, animals and plants. Relief is one of those topics that look dry on a map and become suddenly clear once tied to places the children know: the hill they sledge down in winter, the plain between Măgurele and Bucharest, the mountains they come back from with photographs. We started there and only afterwards arrived at the proper names.
We also marked Navy Day, in quite an unusual way. We found out how important seas and oceans are to our lives — for the weather, for food, for the air we breathe — and together we made a pact: to become guardians of the water. In a practical, playful way the children understood that every drop counts in protecting the environment.
We are fond of this theme because it can be checked straight away, in everyday behaviour: the tap turned off while you brush your teeth, the bottle refilled instead of replaced, the litter carried to the bin even when the bin is further away. Care for the environment is not learned from a lesson but from small gestures repeated until they become natural.
We were nearing the end of Summer School and were delighted with everything we had discovered together. Thank you for the trust you placed in us.
