Just like the White Rabbit, we discovered how important time is — and how good it feels to spend it learning through play. A character in a permanent hurry, checking his watch at every step, is the best possible pretext for a lesson that otherwise starts at a disadvantage.
Because reading an analogue clock is one of the hardest skills of primary school, however ordinary it may look: the same dial carries two different scales, one of twelve and one of sixty, and the same figures mean different things depending on which hand you are looking at. Once a child grasps that the number 3 means "three o'clock" for the short hand and "fifteen minutes" for the long one, the penny drops — and from there on the exercise becomes easy.
It was a day in which the story did half the work, and the children did the other half, moving the hands around the dial themselves until the requested time came out right.
