PlusKids is an educational centre for primary school children, and what we do daily comes down to a few clear directions.
Building reading and writing skills. Through interactive activities we encourage children to discover the world of books and to improve their reading, writing and comprehension. The most important difference at this age is not reading speed but understanding: a child can read a whole page correctly without being able to say what they read, and that is only put right by working on the text, with questions asked at the right moment.
Deeper work on the school syllabus. We make sure pupils understand and absorb what is taught at school, with extra explanations and practical exercises. Sometimes it is only one idea missed on a day when the child was ill, and the chain breaks from there.
Support with homework. The team is always on hand to help, so that every child grows confident in their own abilities. The aim is not for the homework to be finished but for the child to be able to do a similar exercise on their own the next day.
Work on texts and building vocabulary. Through reading and discussion we encourage the exploration of different kinds of text and the widening of vocabulary, so that the little ones communicate more clearly and expressively.
Training in problem solving. We work on critical thinking, with playful exercises that encourage children to reason logically and look for solutions. The hard part of a word problem is not the arithmetic but understanding what is being asked — and that is where most children come unstuck.
At PlusKids, children do not merely learn new things; they grow and develop, and we work together with parents to give them the tools they need.
