What a lovely morning we had at PlusKids: our children were treated to surprise presents from Saint Nicholas.
The atmosphere was full of smiles and happy excitement. The sixth of December has a charm of its own precisely because it comes early, in the morning, before the day has properly begun. The children come through the door already knowing what is coming but not what they will find — a mixture of certainty and surprise they love enormously.
As always, we enjoyed the moments afterwards: those who opened theirs first waited for the others, showed each other what they had been given and compared without envy. These are small things, but at their age they are anything but self-evident, and a morning like this practises them without anyone having to teach them.
Small celebrations shared with others have an effect that presents opened at home do not: the joy multiplies as it is retold. The children recounted that morning several times before lunch, each from their own angle.
It is astonishing how the magic of the season brings so much happiness into little hearts.
