What after school actually means

What does after school mean to you?

A teacher's task is not an easy one. We guide children towards becoming responsible and self-aware in the face of the biggest daily challenge: homework. The hard part is not the exercise itself but the habit behind it — sitting down to work without being asked five times, checking your own writing, asking for help when you are genuinely stuck rather than at the first line that looks difficult. A child who acquires this in the early years starts with an advantage no amount of private tutoring can supply later.

But PlusKids is not only homework. It is joy, play, friendship and a great many educational activities — and these are not the reward that follows the work, they are the other half of the programme. Here children negotiate the rules of a game, share materials, lose and win, learn to work with someone they would never have chosen to sit beside. These things are not taught; they are practised.

PlusKids, for children who score ten plus.
