With love and enthusiasm, today we celebrated School Valentine's Day at PlusKids.
We chose to talk less about the holiday as everyone knows it and more about what the children like about school and about one another. It is a conversation worth having once a year: the rest of the time, a child hears far more often what went wrong than what they are liked for. And when asked to name one good thing about a classmate, they first have to look at them carefully.
Together we created fine memories, exploring joyful activities and learning new things. Amid the laughter and the creativity, we discovered that love and friendship are the loveliest lessons we can learn — and the only ones that are not taught but practised.
What stays from a day like this is not the decorations but the habit of saying something kind about someone out loud. Children pick it up quickly, and the effect shows in the days that follow, when small quarrels settle far more easily.
