Scratch has an advantage no written language has at primary-school age: nothing has to be typed correctly. The instructions are blocks that snap together, so the child loses no time on commas and brackets and spends it instead on the part that matters — the order of the steps, repetition and conditions.
The result shows on screen straight away, and so does the mistake. This is where the most valuable part begins: hunting for the place where the program broke. A child who has learned to go back over their steps one by one until they find the wrong instruction has learned something that serves them well far beyond the computer.
Robotics adds the check in the real world: if the program is right, the object moves.
