A trip to the Animal Farm, at the end of our week devoted to country life.
An outing like this has a precise role in a themed week: it comes at the end, once the children have learned about animals, vegetables and the work of a smallholding, and it turns everything they have heard into something checked with their own eyes. An animal seen on a chart and the same animal standing a step away are two entirely different things — size, sound and smell cannot be taught in a classroom.
It was a long day, with a coach, plenty of movement and questions asked on the spot, at exactly the moment when the answer was within reach.
