Four free educational games that make maths fun

We have launched four free educational games that make maths practice look nothing like homework.

Each game works on a single operation, so it can be practised until it becomes automatic:

All of them have three difficulty levels, from first steps to "I'm an expert", a timer for children who enjoy competing, and a leaderboard where they can see their name. They work equally well on a phone, a tablet or a computer, need no installation and no account.

The thinking behind them is simple. Mental arithmetic is built through repetition — there is no shortcut. But repetition is exactly the part children resist, and a parent who insists soon ends up in a daily negotiation. Inside a game with a timer and a score to beat, that same repetition happens by itself, and the child usually asks for another round.

The surest sign it is working is the moment the child stops playing in order to practise and starts practising in order to play.
