Today we celebrated a special moment: the show the children earned themselves.
It all started with the mărțișoare. The children made them by hand and then sold them at the Mărțișor fair held last week, with a goal set in advance: to raise the money for a theatre show. It is the simplest and most honest lesson in economics you can give a primary-school child — first you make something, then you persuade someone to buy it, then you count what you have and see how far you still are from what you set out to do. No lecture on the value of work has the effect of a pile of unsold mărțișoare at the end of the day, or, on the contrary, of an empty tray.
And what a lovely show it was. The Zburdalici puppet theatre had us all laughing, singing and thoroughly enjoying ourselves. The difference from a show you are simply taken to is enormous: the children watched the stage knowing they had paid for the ticket themselves, out of their own work, and that pride showed on their faces from the first minute to the last.
We are very proud of these children, and grateful to everyone who helped make the event possible.
