"Horia Hulubei" High School Day, marked with a physics lesson

Because it was "Horia Hulubei" High School Day, we marked the occasion with a special lesson devoted to this great Romanian physicist.

The children discovered who Horia Hulubei was, why he matters so much to Măgurele and how he studied light and atoms in a way that changed science in Romania. For children here, the story carries particular weight: this name does not come from a textbook about distant people, but from the buildings they walk past every day. Măgurele is the town of physics precisely because someone once decided that serious research could be done here too.

Then came everyone's favourite part: the prism experiment. Together we watched white light break into colours and talked about what that means — that the light we think of as simple in fact contains them all. We then went looking for the same hidden rainbows in everyday things: in a glass of water, in a CD, in a puddle with oil on it.

It was a lesson full of wonder, of "wow"s and of genuine curiosity — exactly the way we like to learn at PlusKids.
