The PlusKids elves brought joy to ten children

At last week's charity workshop, Santa's elves from PlusKids brought joy to ten less fortunate children.

The winter holidays mean generosity and time spent with those we love, and the two are learned together. A charity workshop has an advantage no conversation about generosity can match: the child sees the whole path, from beginning to end. They work, they see their work turn into something of value, and afterwards they learn who received it. They are not asked to give away what is theirs, but to make something for someone else — a big difference at an age when personal belongings matter enormously.

The second part matters just as much: nobody was described as "poor". We talked about families going through a hard time, which is true and can happen to anyone. Children understand help offered between equals far better than pity, and the way we speak about those we help stays with them longer than the gift itself.

We are glad we could share the spirit of the season, and we thank all the parents who took part. You were wonderful.
