Italy: taste, colour and... a Vespa

24 photos

"Around the world — a tour of sights and flavours" week continued with an Italian-style adventure.

Together we explored Italian culture and discovered famous landmarks: the Colosseum, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and, of course, the Vespa. We talked about why the tower leans without falling, about how old the Colosseum is and what used to happen there — the kind of detail that turns a building in a photograph into a real place with people in it.

We took an imaginary stroll through the streets of Italy, and the sweet moment of the day was a serving of real Italian ice cream, gelato. Taste is the best memory aid a geography lesson can have: years from now, the word Italy will bring that very day back to them.

The children learned enthusiastically, dreamed, enjoyed themselves and travelled beyond borders without leaving our own yard. Education can be an adventure, and at PlusKids we live it every day.
