Road safety: how to cross the street safely

At after school today we focused, alongside homework and practice sheets, on road safety.

We discussed the importance of safety in traffic and learned how to cross the street properly. It is one of the few lessons that leaves no room for approximation, so we worked through concrete steps: where you stop, in what order you look, why you cross at the crossing even when the street looks empty, what you do when a car does not slow down. A rule stated once is not enough — so we repeated it in a game, until the answer came without hesitation.

We also remembered the Day of the Romanian Police, marked on 25 March. We talked about the role police officers play in the community and about what it means to be a responsible citizen in traffic — including as a pedestrian or on a bicycle. The children understood that the rules are not made against them, but for the situations in which others get it wrong.

The children enjoyed interactive activities and educational games through which they consolidated what they know about traffic rules. We like to teach these lessons early, because they are among the few that apply from the very first day: many of them already walk part of the way home on their own.

We carry on investing in children's safety and education.
