Happy Women's Day to all mothers and to all women. At PlusKids, 8 March was a working day — but a working day of a very particular kind.
The children took part in the "Flowers with petals of love" workshop and each prepared a gift for their mother. They painted pots, careful with every edge, because an object made for one particular person is made differently from a painting exercise. The thought that the piece will end up in a home, on a table, under the eyes of someone you love changes the level of attention entirely: the brush is held more steadily, the colours are chosen more slowly, and mistakes get repaired instead of abandoned.
Alongside the pots came drawings, poems and messages of love and gratitude. The written part has a value of its own: putting into words why you are grateful to someone is at once an exercise in language and an exercise in feeling. The children searched for words, changed them, asked how to spell correctly a word they absolutely wanted to use — precisely the kind of motivation no worksheet can manufacture.
We also talked about what this day actually celebrates: not only mothers, but all the women who make the life around us kinder. And the best part remains that, at this age, children need no persuading to give. They only need materials, time and someone to show them how.
