At PlusKids every day is an adventure full of learning, and these days brought very different themes together.
We explored the mystery of solar eclipses and learned about cosmic phenomena: why an eclipse happens, why it does not happen every month and why you must never look straight at the sun. It is one of those topics where children arrive with explanations of their own, and a wrong idea said out loud is far easier to correct than one kept quiet.
We then enjoyed a violin performance given by a new classmate, taking our inspiration from the harmony of classical music. The child playing for the others practises courage, and those listening practise attention.
We discovered the secrets of art by experimenting with colours and shapes to express our creativity, and we unravelled the mysteries of time, travelling through history and discovering the story of clocks.
In maths, we learned to add and subtract with carrying, using a giant number line. Carrying is exactly where most children get stuck, because it happens in the head and nothing is visible. On a large line you can walk along, the journey becomes visible: you count the steps, reach the end of the ten and move on. What was a memorised rule becomes a movement you have made with your own feet.
