A new adventure has started at PlusKids: European Week.
The children are discovering the European Union and learning about different countries, their traditions and their symbols, through games and creative activities. The format is simple and it works: every day we stop in another country and travel across Europe in our imagination.
The reason we choose one country a day, rather than a lesson about "Europe" in general, has to do with how information settles at this age. A map with twenty-seven states is a patch of colour; a day spent in a single country, with its symbols, its stories and its flavours, leaves a landmark. Those landmarks link up at the end of the week, and only then does the map make sense — as a recap, not as a starting point.
Because the fun does not stop at the centre's door, we also shared activities parents can repeat at home with their children.
What followed was a week full of colour, curiosity and good cheer.
