International Museum Day falls on 18 May, and at PlusKids we marked it as it deserves: the little artists stepped into Picasso's shoes and exhibited their striking work in our own small art museum.
Hanging the work is the part that changes everything. A picture left in a folder is an exercise; the same picture on a wall, with the others looking at it, suddenly becomes something made for someone. Children work differently when they know their work will be seen — more carefully, but also more boldly.
And a museum improvised in a classroom explains in five minutes what a museum actually is: a place where somebody decided that these things are worth keeping and worth showing on.
