We play and we learn to find our way: today we worked with the points of the compass.
North, south, east and west look simple until you have to use them. The real difficulty at this age is that directions do not turn with you: if you spin around, left and right move, but north stays where it was. That is precisely the step a game clarifies better than any explanation, because it makes the child turn, check and see it for themselves.
Orientation is one of those skills that look like textbook material but get used for a lifetime — from reading a map to understanding a floor plan.
