World Bee Day, celebrated with a warm cup of tea and honey

6 photos

We think Bee Day deserves to be celebrated with a warm cup of tea and honey — and that is exactly what we did at after school.

First we found out how important bees are. It is one of the few biology lessons that can end in a tasting, and the link between what you have learned and what is in your cup makes itself. Once you understand how much work lies behind a single spoonful of honey, the honey in your tea stops being something you take for granted.

Then we enjoyed a warm fruit tea with honey together. Moments like these do something we often underestimate: a break in which all the children do the same thing, quietly, at the same time, settles a group better than any rule announced out loud.

Calendar days are, incidentally, the best possible pretext for topics that would otherwise be hard to introduce into an ordinary day. Nobody needs convincing about why we are talking about bees today — it says so in the calendar.
