We had prepared a few surprises for the little ones: a corner for relaxing and reading, English lessons every day, and capable computers.
The reading corner is not a decorative nook. The difference between a book handed out as homework and a book taken off the shelf because you like the cover is enormous at this age, and a comfortable spot where you are allowed to sit differently than at a desk turns reading into rest rather than one more task to get through.
Daily English follows the same logic. With children, frequency beats duration: a quarter of an hour every day leaves more behind than two hours once a week, because the language has no time to drift away between meetings.
And the computers are not there for free time, but for the lessons in which real work is done on them.
A good school year usually begins with things prepared well in advance.
