"Aloha Summer" week was full of adventure and good cheer — exactly the start a holiday needs.
We set off with energy and enthusiasm, with a host of activities that helped the children build their skills and enjoy the time spent together. We learned to work as a team, to be creative and to express ourselves freely. The first week has a particular role in a summer school: the children arrive from different groups, many do not know one another, and the opening activities are designed less for their content than for bringing everyone together.
During the day we had intense dance sessions that put the whole body to work. Dancing does more here than it appears: it burns off pent-up energy, unlocks shy children faster than any conversation, and puts everyone into the same rhythm, quite literally.
Twice a week the children took part in the English lesson taught by our Cambridge CELTA-certified teacher. We learned new words, practised pronunciation and played interactive games that helped us improve in an engaging way.
Then we got ready for the following week, on the theme "The planets — the solar system", in which we would explore the mysteries of the cosmos and find out interesting things about our neighbouring planets.
