In our fourth summer week the theme was "Who am I? The human body", and the children had the chance to discover the mysteries and marvels of their own organism.
We learned how the heart works, why bones are so important and how the brain helps us think and learn. The body enjoys an advantage no other topic has: it is always to hand. Any explanation can be checked at once — the pulse is felt at the wrist, the ribs are counted with the fingers, and balance is tested by standing on one leg.
But we did not stop at theory. We turned it all into play, because that is how the little ones learn most easily and most cheerfully. Interactive games helped us understand complicated processes, and the children explored fascinating images through an electron microscope. That moment is one of the strongest of the week: until then, "too small to see with the naked eye" is just a phrase; once you look, it becomes an experience.
Twice a week the children also had their English lesson with our Cambridge CELTA-certified teacher, included in the summer programme.
