The second week of Summer School was a journey through the universe.
The children explored the planets, the constellations, the Sun and the Moon, and took part in a great many interactive games. The lessons were built so that they would discover as much as possible about the solar system and the world of the stars for themselves: they ran experiments, compared sizes and distances, and were encouraged to ask questions.
The questions were, in fact, the best part of the week. Astronomy has a gift for drawing curiosity even out of the more reserved children, because nobody can know the answers in advance — not even the grown-ups. "What would life on other planets look like" is the sort of question anyone can think about, provided they have understood what air, water and temperature mean. That is how we arrived, by a roundabout route, at some serious ideas.
Every week the children had interactive activities in English with our Cambridge CELTA-certified teacher. From the youngest to the oldest, English is learned here in an enjoyable way, and that lesson is one of the most eagerly awaited in the programme.
The adventure carried on into the third week, given over to theatre and film — a chance to build acting skills, explore the art of cinema and bring their own stories to life.
