At the PlusKids Science Club, the children became little researchers and set off on a journey into the world of cells.
Together we discovered what a cell is, how animal and plant cells differ, and what the main parts look like and do. These are ideas that fill a hard-going page in a textbook; here, they were first modelled by hand. A child who has built a cell wall themselves and had to decide where to place the nucleus no longer needs to memorise the diagram — they already have it.
Then came the microscope. The moment a child sees with their own eyes the structure they have just been talking about is hard to replace with any other teaching method. The explanations were pitched at their level, step by step, so that the science stayed easy to follow and enjoyable.
The Science Club runs on Saturdays, in small groups, and changes theme from one session to the next — biology, physics, chemistry or botany. What does not change is the format: less listening, more doing.
