The gentle autumn sun greeted us on the first day of the holiday. We spent a great deal of time in the yard and the park, with creative activities in between the outings.
During the holidays the schedule changes, and it is right that it should. With no homework, the day is organised around free play, and the time spent outdoors grows as far as the weather allows. Clear days at the end of October are the last of their kind until spring, so we made the most of them.
Free play in the yard in fact does much of the work we assume belongs to organised activities: the children invent their own rules, change them when they do not work, fall out and make up again.
