At PlusKids, every week means learning, discovery and plenty of practice. This week the children worked through integrated activities, where the same theme moves from one subject to another without breaking the thread.
We broke words into syllables starting from strawberries, and recognised geometric shapes in ordinary things around us. We worked on units of mass, weighing and comparing, and compared numbers in a Pac-Man game, where the "greater than" and "less than" signs suddenly become easy to remember.
In writing we built sentences by answering the questions who?, doing what?, when?, where?, how? — a simple framework that helps children move from three-word statements to complete sentences. We told the time and discussed units of time, and in "At the supermarket" we learned about money: what it costs, what you hand over, what change you get back.
Then came the "word soup", with synonyms and antonyms, and drawing the main ideas out of pictures — two exercises that look like vocabulary work but are really about understanding a text. And on Family Day we talked about the number family, matching the theme of the day to the maths lesson.
At PlusKids, children do not just do their homework. They understand, they practise and they learn step by step, through activities their teachers have thought through with care.
