We carried on our "World of Stories" week with one of the best-loved tales of childhood: Little Red Riding Hood.
We took it step by step. The children followed the narrative thread, picked out the main ideas and learned the elements of a text: who the characters are, where and when the action happens, what comes first and what follows. They filled in missing passages — an exercise that looks simple but demands exactly what is hardest at this age: holding the whole in your head while working on a single piece of it.
To keep the learning alive, we then turned the story into role play. The children stepped into the characters and acted it out: they spoke up, waited for each other's lines, matched their tone to the situation. It is the best training in self-expression we know, precisely because nobody experiences it as an exercise. Diction, attention, memory and the courage to speak in front of others are all practised at once, in the shape of a game.
Homework was not set aside either, since it is always part of the day's programme, and the day closed with English activities led by Olga together with the Summer School children.
A lovely day, full of stories, play, learning and good spirits at PlusKids.
