Week 6: financial education for children

80 photos

It was a week full of discoveries, games and valuable lessons about money.

We learned what saving means, how to tell a need from a want, why a budget matters and how to make smart decisions. The distinction between need and want is by far the most useful of these — and the hardest to accept, because it asks you to admit that the thing you want very badly is not, in fact, necessary.

We built creative piggy banks, invented our own banknotes and simulated a little town in which the children took turns being sellers, buyers and investors. The simulation was the most instructive part: when you have a limited sum and several sellers competing for your attention, the choice becomes real, and so does the regret afterwards.

Every activity showed us that financial responsibility is formed in childhood, through play and practical examples. We were delighted to see how eager the little ones were to become "clever bankers" and "brave investors".

Step by step, we are laying the foundations for thoughtful adults.
