How to choose the right preparation centre and avoid confusion
A guide for parents: how to avoid confusion and recognise a genuine Cambridge English course.
Recently, more and more English courses have been promoted using the name “Cambridge”. For parents, this creates confusion: a course may sound good in its marketing, but that does not automatically mean the child will sit an official Cambridge English exam or receive an internationally recognised certification.
That is why PlusKids takes on the role of properly informing parents. We believe every parent should know what to check before choosing an English course for their child — especially before investing significant money and a whole year of the child's time in a course that should deliver real preparation and a recognised certification. 💙
Ask clearly what status the centre has
Is it a Cambridge English preparation centre? Is it an authorised exam centre? Or does it merely use the name “Cambridge” in its marketing? The difference is very important.
At PlusKidsPlusKids is an authorised Cambridge English preparation centre, and the official exams are taken through our partner EECentre, a Platinum Authorised Exam Centre. Children follow the official Cambridge preparation curriculum, take mock exams throughout the school year in a format identical to the official exams, and sit the final exam right at PlusKids — the only educational centre in Măgurele to offer this to its students. 📝
Ask how the exam registration works and what level the child will sit
An official Cambridge English exam involves real registration, official documents and results that can be verified. It is not enough for a course to have the word “Cambridge” in its name. Parents should know clearly what level the child is sitting and how the official registration works. The Cambridge English levels follow a well-defined path, from the first exams for children up to the advanced levels:
- Pre A1 Starters
- A1 Movers
- A2 Flyers
- A2 Key
- B1 Preliminary
- B2 First
- C1 Advanced
- C2 Proficiency
At PlusKids, before enrolling in the course, children take an initial English assessment to determine their real level and place them correctly in the right group, according to the Cambridge English levels. This way the child is not enrolled “by guesswork” or based on age alone, but starts from the level that suits them, with tailored preparation and a clear goal for the Cambridge English exam they will sit.
Check the certificate received
An official Cambridge English certificate has visible security features, including a hologram/watermark — as can be seen on the certificates of the PlusKids children who have sat and passed the Cambridge English exams. 🔍 A simple diploma, produced in-house by an educational centre or after school, even if it bears the word “Cambridge” or a similar logo, is not the same as an official Cambridge English certificate.
Important for parentsA document without official security features, without official verification data and without a result verifiable through the Cambridge systems is not an internationally recognised Cambridge English certificate. As a result, it cannot be used for the recognitions or equivalencies provided for in the Romanian education system, such as the modern-language proficiency test for admission to bilingual/intensive classes or the language competence test at the Baccalaureate.
At PlusKidsAll children who pass the Cambridge English exams receive official Cambridge certificates, recognised internationally.
Check who teaches the course and what materials are used
Preparing for an international exam is not just worksheets, games and vocabulary. The teacher's experience, working method, knowledge of the exam structure and the materials used matter a great deal.
At PlusKidsThe Cambridge English preparation courses are taught by Olga Testova, a Cambridge CELTA certified teacher — one of the most recognised international qualifications for teaching English. 👩🏫
Children follow the official Cambridge English preparation curriculum and work with official Cambridge textbooks and materials, adapted to each child's level, so that the preparation is coherent, correct and aligned with the exam requirements.
Ask where the exam takes place
For the second year in a row, PlusKids hosts the Cambridge English exam at our premises in Măgurele. The examiners come to PlusKids with the necessary materials and equipment, and the children sit the exam in a familiar, calm and safe space. 🏫
At PlusKidsIn recent years, over 200 students have taken part in the Cambridge English exams organised at PlusKids, with a pass rate of over 98%. For the children, this experience has meant courage, confidence and an important step in their development. 🌟
Our advice for parents
Before choosing a course promoted as “Cambridge”, ask clearly:
- Who teaches the course and what qualifications does the teacher have?
- How does official exam registration work?
- Does the child sit an official Cambridge English exam?
- Do they receive a Cambridge English certificate or just an in-house diploma?
- Does the document received have a hologram/watermark and verification data?
- Can the results be verified online on the official Cambridge website?
From September 2026 we look forward to welcoming you to PlusKids for a new year of English preparation and the Cambridge exams.
Children's education deserves transparency, seriousness and respect. 💙
