"Let the children be creative!" We learn English through appealing activities and inventive workshops.
Compared with a conventional lesson, the workshop has an advantage we see in every group: the language becomes a tool rather than a subject. When a child has something to do — to build, to cut out, to show the others — English enters the picture naturally, as a way of asking, explaining and getting along with everyone else. Words learned that way do not need revising at home, because they have already been used.
And creativity adds one more thing: every child talks about their own piece of work, that is, about something that interests them. The difference in motivation between answering a coursebook question and telling everyone what you have made is enormous.
