We are delighted to introduce the first generation of PlusKids children to earn a Cambridge certificate.
It is a moment that matters to us more than it may appear from the outside. A Cambridge certificate is not handed out at the end of just any course: it requires an internationally recognised syllabus, worked through from beginning to end, and an exam sat in front of examiners from outside the centre. The child is not assessed by the teacher who prepared them, and the result says something verifiable about what they know.
Our courses are taught by a Cambridge CELTA-certified teacher, and every child sits the exam — not only those we are confident will pass. That choice is deliberate. An exam the whole group attends is no longer a selection but a shared finishing line: each child finds out where they have got to and what comes next, and the nerves are divided among them, which makes them far easier to carry.
The path is organised in levels — Starters, Movers and Flyers — so that each child begins where they actually are, not where their age says they should be. The gap between two children of the same age can be wide in English, and a course that ignores it loses them both: one gets bored, the other falls behind.
The most important gain, though, is not the paper but what happens to the child afterwards. A child who has been through an official exam and seen that they can manage speaks English differently — with less fear of making a mistake, which is, at any age, the main obstacle to a foreign language.
